On Town Meeting day, sixty Vermont cities or towns passed resolutions calling upon Congress to amend the US Constitution to state that “corporations are not people” and “money is not speech.” In this way, Vermont is adding a powerful voice to a national movement organized by the Move to Amend organization, led by David Cobb.
On Wednesday evening, March 14th in Waitsfield, and Thursday March 15th in Burlington, David Cobb, attorney, activist and former presidential candidate, and will speak on the key issues of the Move to Amend campaign and next steps for our state and nation to promote the organized nationwide effort to create a 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution that addresses two serious legal issues threatening democracy in America: corporate personhood and money being considered free speech. Vermont Senator Virginia “Ginny” Lyons, who has introduced a resolution to amend the constitution to end “corporate personhood”, and Jerry Greenfield, Co-Founder, Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc., will also be on hand to shed political and business insight on this important topic.
On Wednesday, March 14th the event takes place at the Big Picture Theater in Waitsfield. On Thursday, March 15th, the
event takes place at Ira Allen Chapel, Burlington. Each event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 pm for free Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and information tables. In Waitsfield, there will be live music by Phineus Gage. In Burlington on March 15th, Cobb will also conduct a teach-in at 4 pm at Fletcher Free Library.
